Thanks guys - he was an incredibly Decent person (dedicating himself as a therapeutic clown for sick children), and only 32 years old, but he faced  this thing head-on and finished extremely well.

Miss Kitty and I both appreciate your support.

The song's a little quirky - did it touch anything in anyone else, or am I just feeling especially mushy?   :)

It moved me to tears, but I'm not sure it was just the song.  I think it would have touched me anyway, though, it's beautiful.

Thanks, Mac.  Here are some words shared at the funeral (not sure if they're original for the occasion or just borrowed):

You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile because he has lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that he’ll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all he’s left.
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him, or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him and only that he’s gone, or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what he’d want; smile, open your eyes, love and go on

Jello and Miss Kitty, i feel for your sadness.  Lost of a loved one is so hard on the ones left behind.  In some ways we never adjust, we never cease to miss them.  I have lost many over the years, parents and close friends.  I continue to miss them every day.  one thing that helps me is to remember that they would want us to be happy and prosper.  Some how that helps justify their going on and leaving us behind.  I wish it did get better but it really doesn''t.  So we remember the good things and be thankful for the gift of having had some time on earth with them.

My thoughts and love are with you both.  Thank God for friendship and memories.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Kitty... My family just lost the man I always considered  as my "adoptive grandfather" a few weeks ago, and the song helps  :)

I'm sorry to hear that, Peter. At least he had good friends at his side throughout the fight.

Also sad to hear of your own loss, Jake - I had such a man in my own life, in my youth, and I know what that loss can be like.

Skinner, that's a great track, I didn't remember you liked Celtic music, nor I expected to find such a fine example in Canada  O__o

After so much moving musicla material, let me give you a nice laugh... OK, it's not nice to laugh at young people's efforts (it's a local band, they're only 14, they've got plenty of time to improve), but a benevolent laugh won't hurt them, especially because they seemed to have a good time, too. Go to min 4.30 (more or less), get into the - er - mood and get ready for the amazing (amazing is not even strong enough a word) guitar solo at 5.20   :laughing7: :laughing7:

By the way and speaking of music that comes from the Celtic tradition, here is a video of one of my nephews' band (he's the guy with long hair and white t-shirt with the djembe drum hanging from his neck) performing live on the Swiss national channel a few years ago. The lyrics are partly in Italian and partly in the local dialect.

Jake - You have my sincere condolences - hang in there!

Mac: I really enjoyed the celtic music with your nephew - somehow the song reminded me of this old chestnut: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9jbdgZidu8

Skinner - Are you saying you knew Stan Rogers!?  I'm a huge fan... in fact I've been driving co-workers crazy with my "Stan Playlist" in the tour van... I even held some of them hostage with watching CBC's "One Warm Line" documentary on YouTube.

While still on the subject, go here  http://www.brianmcneill.co.uk/revs.htm and in the player locate the song "Muir and the master builder,"  which I find awesome.  Listen to all the others as well, though, this guy is incredibly talented (plays lots of instruments, too).  And he's the real  thing, as you can tell from the Scottish accent  ;-)
Great musician indeed.

Skinner, that's a great track, I didn't remember you liked Celtic music, nor I expected to find such a fine example in Canada  O__o

I spent a lot of time at my grandparents farmhouse listening to "the adults" play fiddle and guitar. My grandfather came by boat from Scotland, but, in truth, it's the folks out on the east coast of Canada who really keep up the traditions.

Here's another of my personal favourites:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-PQbdmQRwc" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-PQbdmQRwc</a>

I quite enjoyed your nephew's work, as well as the Muir and the Master Builder track. The local band, was, uh, enthusiastic.  :laughing7:

Skinner - Are you saying you knew Stan Rogers!?  I'm a huge fan... in fact I've been driving co-workers crazy with my "Stan Playlist" in the tour van... I even held some of them hostage with watching CBC's "One Warm Line" documentary on YouTube.

Oh, jeez, no, I can't make such a claim - it's a tune that reminds me of a certain time.

Mary Ellen Carter is a great song, and One Warm Line is a great doc. I shouldn't be surprised to find you a Stan fan.  :icon_thumleft:

The audience was, too, I believe  ;-P  At the end of the solo you can hear somebody yell "Tombola!!" ("Bingo!!"), meaning "You guys butchered the whole song, and this solo is the final blow!"   :laughing7:
