Cool!
The OTR on my ipod far outweighs the music on mine.

I got a  new Ipod Touch.  I think I like the Nano with the wheel better--seems easier to use.  I have to punch buttons over and over to get to the podcasts now.  But it is kinda neat to have internet service.  DOesn't look like there's much difference between an itouch and an iphone?

As I understand it, the only difference is the phone part.

I was given a video ipod for my brithday. I was crazy about it until the ipod touch came out just a few weeks later. My ipod became old really fast. Worse, I was at the Apple store not much later and found out they had upgraded the software on my version of the ipod. "Cool," I said, "can I download the upgrade?" "No, you can only get it on new ones." The menu screens look so old to me now.

the truth is that the recording indusrty dropped the ball. they've been robbing artists for years and their old model doesn't work anymore. selling product was never something a working musician could pay the rent with. check this out (some swearing):

I've always felt it was awful that "sharing/stealing" took money from the artists, but who feels that way about the companies?

The answer to all the above is pretty complicated, please give me some time to write it down and I'll be back  ;)

"Piracy" in music is similar to, but much more difficult to deal with, than bootleg movies. While there is a market for bootleg films, very often the DVD you get is grainy, was shot from behind a group of people, has lousy sound, etc, "pirated" or stolen music is often of a very high quality, making it more desireable and harder to put a stop to. And of course, music tracks or entire albums are less information than a DVD, so it is digitally faster to distribute.

I agree.  The music industry should have seen the whole file sharing thing as an opportunity, and an indication that some of its customers were tired of the $15 CD when they only really liked a couple of songs.  I say they should have seen it as an opportunity because if they had beaten iTunes to the punch and developed their own online stores, who knows where they would be now?  I understand that "they" have to defend their copyrights, or run the risk of losing them, but suing the people who want your product sure looks bad.  And since it has made the companies appear so evil, it has made it appear OK for a generation of kids to steal.  "They're bad so it's OK to take from them."  They don't see it as stealing food from the mouths of musicians, but as not lining the pockets of the fat cats.

I read an article a couple of years ago that quoted a person from the RIAA as saying something to the affect that it wasn't file sharing that was hurting the industry so much.  It was bootlegs.  But how many lawsuits against bootleggers do you hear about?

Right or wrong it's the internet age, and if you create something that can be digitized you can't really control what happens with it.  For some those file sharing sites were/are more about discovering new music (at no cost) than about getting it for free.

I don't buy CD's anymore, and I very rarely buy anything off of iTunes, and I don't steal a darn thing.  I pay Rhapsody $12 a month to listen to whatever I want at home, and XM about the same to listen on the go.  Whose making the money there?  Probably not the individual artist.

I have "pirated" only once, and even then I dumped the song (didn't care about it).
I agree that no matter how you look at it, it's still stealing. Period. I buy off of iTunes, and occasionally buy a Sinatra CD.
About my iPod? 4GB nano, and almost 98% of the podcasts are OTR (mostly Jims :) :) ;) ;D ), and 2% are political (yes, an obsession)
