Sunday Evening Serials
« on: June 04, 2009, 07:54:27 PM »
Beginning this Sunday, June 7, the Relic Radio shoutcast stream at Live.RelicRadio.com will be featuring two hours (or so) of fine old time radio serials.  The stream is playable in iTunes, Quicktime, Winamp, Windows Media Player, and the Real Media Player.  Just click on the icon of any player you have installed, or if you're using Windows you can use the embedded player on the website.

We'll be starting off with a 1932 production of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde.  This serial was done in 52 fourteen minute episodes, so we'll be hearing 4 episodes every Sunday.  Next up will be one half hour episode of Operation Luna from Journey Into Space.  We'll finish off with Superman and two episodes from Knights Of The White Carnation for a final half hour.

I'm thinking things will begin around 6:00PM Eastern time.

Sweet!
There is also a good Fu Manchu serial from the 1930's available, if you are interested down the line.

I will look it up.  The Superman serial will end first so that will be a good one to do after.  Thank you sir.

If I am correct, it is The Shadow of Fu Manchu, complete in 15 minute installments- maybe as many as 40 installments. I have it on cassette, must be fairly old by now.

This week is the end of Operation Luna.  Last week ended the latest Superman serial.  Next week Dr. Jekyl will be wrapped up.  Time for some new ones!

This week begins a six part serial of Day Of The Triffids.  I'll look up that Fu Manchu serial today and see what I can find.  I'll post here again when the next set of replacements are ready to roll.

Yes it's British.  It was done a couple of times, I think this one is from 1960 (if I remember correctly).

Hmm, I may have heard this. Eerie and closer to the novel than the movie.

Any chance these serials will also be added as a podcast?  I love me some OTR serials but it's hard for me to regularly commit to being in a place where I can listen at any specific time every week.

Not in the foreseeable future.  I'm actually putting Sunday Evening Serials on hiatus for a bit as well.  I haven't played them in a couple of weeks and nobody has noticed.  I'm not sure it's worth the effort right now.

Does this still happen?

No, I haven't resurrected the serials yet.  If there is enough interest I'll consider it though.
