New "The Prisoner" Mini-Series
« on: July 02, 2009, 06:21:40 PM »
AMC is airing an updated version of The Prisoner in November.  If you're interested in watching something sooner, they have made the first six episodes of the original available to watch online here.  I wonder if Patrick McGoohan was involved at all with the new production (before his death in January that is)?

As far as I've heard, no.
The Prisoner was one of THE BEST shows ever to air on TV.
By far.

And, regardless of how good this new version is or is not, it should have been left alone...

It's strange how all the past series are being "refreshed" lately... lack of original ideas is becoming a big problem, apparently  :-\

Anyway, I'm curious to have a look at this, so as soon as I have a coupole of minutes I'll check out the link, thanks Jim  :)

From the era when time constraints didn't force you to cut the opening sequence, and a theme that rocks.

Correction!  They have all 17 episodes available to view online.  Use this link.

I've never seen a whole episode of this series, so I hope they leave them all up long enough for me to see them.  Maybe a Prisoner a night.

Maybe all the good stories have already been told.  There can't be an infinite supply can there?  I think we've been watching the same basic stories for a long time now.

Actually, that's probably the main problem...  with that kind of story it's not the plot that really counts (in the case of the Prisoner it was silly to begin with), but the atmosphere, the way it was done.
Do it again, and it simply won't be the same...

Jim, I'm dying to know what you think of the show after you've seen the finale. And there is also an alternate cut of The Chimes of Big Ben that is worth seeing.

And when you become a McGoohan fan, there is Secret Agent, Danger Man, his Columbo episodes, etc.

The American theme song became a hit for Johnny Rivers.

Jim, you better warn me if I'm using up too much bandwidth, or whatever.

I'll be sure and post here.  Looks good so far.

I liked The Avengers as well.  Especially the Emma Peel episodes, as opposed to the other partners.  I have a bunch on VHS, which still look pretty good.

Emma Peel, as they said, had the M appeal - truly unique, and the imaginative and slightly crazy episodes did the rest, not to mention the perfect partner  :)  (the others, I don't even remember...)
Definitely something I want to have on dvd someday  :)

Now that my appetite has been whet, amazon.com lists all Avengers DVDs as discontinued. Ebay, here I come.
