Detective Story Hour

Jim, do you (or anyone here) know if any episodes of Detective Story Hour exist? That was the show that pre-dated The Shadow, where he was merely the narrator. I've struck out in my research.

He's looking for an actual old radio show, not a podcast.  One I'm assuming was on in the early to mid 1930's?  I'll look into it, but I imagine if you struck out my search is doomed as well.

I found a Radio Detective Story Hour from the 50's, but you're right, this is from the 30's. I did find a few seconds-long clip of Frank Redick as the Shadow from that show on the Shadow's Sanctum site, but that's it. He sounded creepier than anyone else to take on the role. He's the reason the Shadow took off. Everyone wanted to read the Shadow's adventures (and at that time he had not a one) instead of the stories he introduced in Detective Story Magazine.

Im looking for episodes now, and just emailed a vice-president at CBS Radio, where the Detective Story Hour debuted.

I've always assumed that the Whistler is pretty much what the Lo Curto/Readick narrator Shadow sounded like.

The Whistler (Joseph Kearns/Bill Forman) sounded a little more different than LaCorto/Readick...

He sounded less evil, but I figured his narration was similar.
