What's your ideal length for an OTR show?
« on: September 02, 2010, 05:35:32 PM »
I don't mean the podcasts by Jim, I mean the bare shows. To me that's 15 minutes, so I can listen to one even when I barely have the time for a coffee, not to mention the fact that there's little chance of my mind wandering in such a short time...
How about you?

I also like short episodes - I'd say something like 20ish minutes of show, plus Jim's dulcet tones, is about perfect.

1/2 hour for comedy and "silly horror" (Inner Sanctum, et al)
1/2 hour to 1 hour for serious drama

half hour, including Jim.
there's something about that length of time for me.
it might have something to do with me being raised by the TV in the '70's...
Welcome Back Kotter, Happy Days, Chico and the Man, Sanford and Son, All in the Family, Gilligan's Island, all half hour memories.

Yeah, half an hour's my favourite too.  An hour is just too hard to carve out the time (or stay awake) for.  15 minutes is nice for shows that don't need 30 minutes to accomplish their goals.  ie. Strange Doctor Weird.  At the risk of angering a lot of people, I daresay, that maybe even Space Patrol could have be done in a 15 minute slot.  I love it... but don't feel it actually needs 30 minutes. :confused5:

Well, if we include Jim's shows (I actually meant shows alone, not in Jim's podcasts), then I should say 30/40 minutes; it probably has to do with memories, as well, I believe my first Relic Radio OTRs were that length.  30 minutes is OK for serious stuff, too, though 15 minutes give me more listening opportunities.

And one of you didn't vote. I suspect it's that guy from Canada, you know, the one who couldn't quote, either...     :tongue3: :laughing7: :laughing7: :laughing7:

Generally speaking I like the 30 minute shows.  45 is OK when the story needs it.

I generally prefer the 30 min. show.  My favorite ones are adaptations of classic horror short stories though, and some of those need more time.  I'm enjoying the reading of Algernon Blackwood's "The Willows" over at Vintage Horror, which is a longer story but well worth the time spent as it is one of the best stories written.

Thirty minutes are perfect for me, as it takes me 14 minutes to go to work, two 15 minute breaks, and another 14 minute ride home. There's two OTR shows a day, not to mention an hour lunch!!

I usually listen to OTR in long chunks. I like one-hour shows, like Lux Radio Theater. My favorite Suspense episodes are the hour-length episodes.

I lurk occasionally. Work has kept me busy, so I haven't visited as many sites as I could in the past.:)
